so your Tiagra flat bar shifter is 4700 series.

what 10 spd drop bar shifter was on it in drop bar mode? if that was also tiagra 4700 you're fine, if not it will never index properly.

I might be able to get a 4700 series rear mech for free. Should that work?

Success. At the bottom of my mech box in the shed I found a long-cage 4700 mech from an old planned build which never took place.

I'll have to do a stock-check and inventory out the shed one day.
