Am I the only one who thinks that there is no event like the TDF and the "nutters" on the mountain stages make it partly what it is? Perhaps if the riders can't handle it they should start track cycling?

They can handle it. See the photo of Berto at the beginning of the thread.

I think the guy and Bertie hit had 'previous'.

ISTR he's an anti-drugs campaigner and had given Bertie grief on the Giro ??

I am actually a little surprised that more wasn't made of the incident. I personally think the bloke had it coming, but in most sports if a professional athlete smacked a 'fan' then there would be uproar.

I appreciate most sports don't have idiots posing as 'fans' running up and down the mountain side screaming and getting in the way of the athletes, but still surprised me nothing seemed to be said about the incident.

Probably because everybody in the world thinks the tossers who run along side riders spoil the spectacle and create a danger and any of them who cops a right hook had it coming.

Actually the idiot in green had his hand between Alberto´s hands, almost touching his chest. This alone -regardless of the garb- would be enough!

If you look closely, he's got a stethoscope attached to his ears and the other end in his hand so that looks like what he was trying to acheive, but got a well earned back hander instead.

LMAO. That B&W photo--I know the guy facing away with his hands up is probably trying to keep other people from joining in and generally trying to calm things down, but the angle of the shot makes it look like he's about to flee in panic.

I get the impression that he's trying to form an orderly queue and not to rush as there's plenty of smacks in the kisser for all if they want one

My 2-penneth-they can't have barriers all the way up, so paint a line- if you cross it you're elligible for a whack from Les Gendarmes' batons. These "idjuts" (that's the t+ssers running up and down in fancy dress, not the Gendarmes), deserve a good kicking- something I thought the French Police were not shy of administering?
