Considering expensive racy wheels

What issues should I need to be aware of in general? For example I heard carbon fibre braking surfaces are not great and wear out fast.
Also is it possible to true wheels like these:

Will go for proper spokes if needed.
What weight should I expect for high profile wheels? Im not looking to gain an extra tenth of a second over a 10 miler, but I do want my moneys worth.

Are you looking for wheels for a TT bike, or for racing on, or sportives or just the club run or commuting?
When it comes to carbon wheels I have 3 sets which were originally bought for racing etc , Dura ace C50 tubs for crit races, Reynold attacks and Reynolds assaults clinchers for fast sportives or maybe mid week racing. Hardly any rim wear at all on any of them as they are only for best , I never had a problem with braking in the wet or dry in a race situation.
The wheels pictured cannot be trued. ( well I am fairly sure you cant true them). As to weight how deep is your wallet.( yes how deep is it what are you looking at spending) A set of lighteight Meilenstein nearly 4000 quid 1.2 kg, a set of reynolds assaults 1,200 quid 1.3kg.
They are more susceptible to rim damage from knocks etc I have seen a Zipp 303 wheel break from going down a pothole my old aluminium aksiums would have laughed at.

What kind of riding will you be doing?

Trispokes are not permitted in UK road/circuit racing and cannot be trued anyway.

They would look utterly sh*t on a normal road bike... that's an issue to be aware of.
Like Mag wheels on a BMX...

Tri-spokes are generally use don the front with a disc wheel on the back for TT'ing.

You would probably be far better off getting a lightweight set of alloy wheels for general use. Deep sections can be a mare in hilly windy places - inless you buy expensive sets that are wind tunnel designed. Most aren't.

If you want nice wheels then just do it . I like wheels .
If I where to pick an all rounder it would be 40mm carbon with alloy braking hand built .
