I'm pretty sure that's Shimano's plug and play system. Plug it in, no need for bleeding. Called Easy-something joint something.

It's brililant, it allows easy shipping of bikes with hydraulic hoses and easy assembly. Stop dissing Shimano, people.

Brilliant, thanks so much for that info! A swift google found me this video about swapping left and right brake; another reason for the plug system being they can ship the bikes worldwide just the same and people can install the brakes whichever way round they need.

A little printed leaflet in the box from Felt explaining that would have helped loads, as would Merlin mentioning it, but hey ho.

I have some sympathy with your LBS - I suspect they're sick of building bike they've not supplied themselves / aren't making a margin on, so have whacked a good chunk on the job to deter people / make it worthwhile.
It's not my LBS that said that, it's Merlin but you're probably right about their motivations.

If the bike was that much of a bargain I'd be inclined to suck it up and do it yourself - if it needs tools, they'll likely be of use in the future at some point so it's not money wasted.
Yes, agree and have already bought the bleed kit as it's useful for another bike too.

I'm glad I could change your mind. I agree on the leaflet though. Next up....how to get some more love for Di2.

To be clear though, I was never dissing Shimano or hydro discs. I've never had a problem with them. A little disappointed with the info provided with the bike from Felt, and on Merlin's website but that's about it.

Update: I had an hour this afternoon so I had a go.
Just bolted the caliper in place, connected the front brake cable and put the front wheel in. It was quite easy but I did manage to lose 2-3 drops of fluid so the brake is a bit spongy but it works. I guess there was a bit of pressure in the system; not sure how I could have got round that with what came in the box but at least I can top up and bleed now. The bleed kit from Epic Bleed Solutions had arrived at the weekend.

Didn't do the rear yet as was losing the light.

One thing I noticed is the cable connectors seem to be missing the thin rubber protective covers mentioned in that GCN video I linked upthread.
