Mine has packed up after about two years..

It did speed, miles, averages etc, but it was blummin complicated to operate.

Anyone recommend a reliable replacement please?

ps, I don't want wireless.

I like the Cateye Strada (about £20 +/-). OK, it costs more than the Adli/Lidl units but it is easy to use (one press on the unit moves it from function to function; press and hold to zeroise) and is easy to read.

Why not just employ some working class lackey to run alongside you as you cycle and write down your mileage and perform whichever calculations you require upon request?

So disappointing domtyler.. just when i was hoping for some paternalistic aristo philanthropist to step in with the choice from a shed load of top notch computers, in you rush, with an entirely typical and somewhat vulgar 'new money' type suggestion for the reinvigouration of the slave economy!;)

i expected that Mr Pig might suggest a Linn computer, that he hasn't presumably suggests they are stuck in a retro hi fi time warp. They will never prosper unless they diversify..

Cheers workers united, i'll look into the Strada. Its a bit pricey though init?

I love my Garmin. Calculates everything for you then downloads it on to your computer so you can see where you've been (and plot where you're going - never get lost again) and works out calories, speeds, the lot. Superb bit of kit.

Quite the opposite, I think Linn have turned into a sort of haggis-powered Bang & Olufsen. Nothing they've made since the late eighties interests me at all.

Why don't you want a wireless one? Just out of interest.

i'm just a 'hard wired' type person Mr Pig doing my best to slow down so called 'technological development'!

The basic Trek one does well for me. It's called Incite 6i. Speed, max speed, trip distance, trip time, clock and odometer. No av speed but that's good for mental arithmetic on the go. One battery change needed in 7,500 miles and it's very easy to operate.

So do I. I actually have two of them but one needs a bearing and I refuse to pay over the odds for one. The one in use is a deck I built up myself with a mixture of old and new parts, sounds great!

Very nice record players.

Bite the bullet Redcogs, get a £6 special from Tes*o. Mine still works after 4 years and countless soakings.

I've got one of those .. mine does the job, but I am going to upgrade to (probably) a Cateye V2c or (maybe) the Edge 305 at the end of the year 'cos I want more MORE MORE !!

But both of those are wireless and so no good to you OP, sorry. Still, the Tesco one is wired and does the job for less than a loaf of bread. Probably.

Just get a wireless one (as they all seem to be now) and for that authentic old-fashioned look: run a bit of wire from one to the other.

Then when the wire breaks (as they all do in time) it will magically keep working!

In the Cycling section of eBay, do a search for "Bikemate".

Almost identical to the ones they were flogging in Lidl's recently.

£20. Ok, its cheap, but its actually a great little bit of kit, heart rate monitor as well.

Worth a try, cant really go wrong for £20, considering all the functions and doo-dahs these things can do.

Mine has been great so far, had it for about a month now.
