What's the deal with compression clothes?

Is the idea that they absorb sweat better?

I see Aldi have some compression tops on sale tomorrow and I'm wondering if it's worth picking some up?

I commute 10 miles each way to work and do sweat a lot so I'm wondering if these will help with that at all?

Anyone used compression tops from Aldi ?

I don't think the idea behind them is to absorb sweat. You would be better off with something like a merino wool base layer for that.

For what it's worth, and I'm "merely" a leasure / commuting cyclist, I had some superficially comfortable, but snug "longs" which turned into agony on my calves after a couple miles, so am very skeptical on so-called compression. I must stress they weren't tight tight or anything, nor advertised as "compression" garments. Fit for cycle clothes is very tricky at the best of times, having got both medium and extra large trousers from the same company (dhb) - both of which fit me fine.

How does ne avoid "compression" tights?

From memory theyre meant to be supportive and help with circulation in the muscles so they dont feel as tired, as well as doing all the usual sweat wicking stuff as regular base layers.

Ive only got one compression top and its quite an expensive Asics one for running i found in a sale, skeptical at first and felt weird, but it makes your posture feel really good around the core. I havent tried cycling compression stuff though.

Dunno about the Aldi compression shorts, but I have a pair of Sugoi shorts for after a long hard ride.
I have also worn then on the second day of a 170 miler.

They are godsend.
Thy work in two ways, during a ride/run they keep your muscles in effective position for the expansion/contraction cycle which makes them more efficient rather than them flopping around during the relaxed phase.
After exercise they help with blood flow through the muscles and in the removal of the toxins left behind in the muscles.
Couldn't do without mine especially post-ride.

Better explained blurb here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_shorts

Edit: they are high wicking to remove sweat and heat too

I'm using skins compression A400 3/4s and long sleeve top use them when out running and on the bikes, it's stopped me having cramps in my legs and after a hard session it stops my muscles form aching thing there good for blood flow and getting oxygen to the needed muscles and helps with the sweet absorbing!

SKINS. That is all!

(and by the way they do what they say on the tin !)

I use Skins as well, find them really comfy with an ace pad. The big winner for me was that they size by a height weight combination which works great. Everything else is either to small on top or too long in length. Do compression things work? Well I definitely feel more spring in the legs!

I always wear Nike pro compression vests and Lycra shorts when cycling...everything just feels so much more efficient whilst you're riding IMO!
