complete newbie question - about pumping tyres

I would suggest going around to the local petrol station and and using their airline. That way you'd get a reasonably accurate tyre pressure and minimal physical effort is required :-)

I pump them up until the tyre is solid, it seems to be going down when I remove the valve (less than a second of hissing)
