Today's Clue!​

Today’s treasure is hidden at what is believed to be a Coiners Stone, it’s low level and accessible, so you best move fast! Located on the Calderdale Green Way (Route 66). Follow this EAST from the Mytholmroyd Train Station. Follow the twists and turns until you cross a bridge, decorated by our local youth. Just over the bridge you will find the old Coiners Stone, on the east side of the path. Hunt around to find the treasure! Best of luck folks.​

In the outdoors, it’s never a good idea to ‘cut corners’. But where does this phrase come from, cutting corners?

Well, todays hunt has a bit of a history attached, and it's some quality horrible history. Here in my home town of Mytholmroyd, held the biggest counterfeit scam of gold coins in British history. In the 18th century, ‘King’ David Hartley would take gold coins and resize them by clipping the corners and reshaping them. He then would melt together the clippings and shavings of the coins, reproducing fake coins, and have his publicans distribute these counterfeits back into circulation. Making him and his gang, the Coiners, a small fortune. Hartley's downfall came via hanging, and we are left with the phase ‘don’t cut corners!​
