If you're out riding with someone why would you be so far apart a walkie talkie is needed? If the other rider is out of sight then one of you needs to ride with more consideration for the other.

I really don't understand the need for this.

I really don't understand the need for this.

At least two possibles:
- for resolving the situations where one rider DOES get out of earshot. And
- I very often can't hear quietly spoken individuals over traffic noise (even on fairly quiet roads. Or just windy days!)

[Does the forum need a sub-commitee to vet all new questions?? :P ]

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
It is unlikely to be 100m+ with typical consumer devices. If you have had that range it will mostly have been using industrial level devices rather than consumer.
Consumer device but 15ish years ago, mains powered and outdoors. Battery power and power-saving have reduced range, and probably so has the increased use of devices on those frequencies. I'm surprised range has reduced so much but I defer to your more recent experience.

Have a look on the tandem forums - not that many dedicated Tusers on here - but it's something they actively consider. Motorbike riders too, but they mostly have powered systems. . Although tandems don't need the range the battery life is a massive consideration, volume ease of use while riding etc.

Thanks for your view , it was about which product worked, but thanks for your opinion
If you're out riding with someone why would you be so far apart a walkie talkie is needed?
A number of reasons, As i went off to an area (forest centre looking to see what food/facilities are available as mentioned closed)
Also I went off while my other half was at a cafe bikeshop
Other half at a cabin with no signal
Same reason she may go off
she goes back to the cabin/car and i'm still in the forest or going to a shop
and various other reasons, where Mobile signal is non-existant
See post 12 regarding Chichester town centre
Useful for our separate garage 500m away , which has no mobile signal

The friend I often ride with is rather slower than me - she is quite happy to ride often a few minutes behind me and we either meet up at a specific junction (I get plenty more breaks), an agreed shop/cafe, a bike lock up spot, a railway station or wherever. We're very much out riding purely for recreation and relaxation, not for dozens of miles without stopping.
This arrangement suits us both - I don't have to go much slower than I would normally and she doesn't have to get stressed trying to keep up
We use just mobiles to communicate if really needed as we don't usually ride anywhere with no signal.

interesting , seems the video posted only a few hours ago - none in stock of the C1 at Sena, and some questions about if discontinued - just looking through the range

A tip.

Get some Boafeng (also sold as Pofung) 888S's and a programming lead.

Program them up on the 16 PMR446 channels.

Technically not legal because they're too powerful for 446 use but if you stick to that licence free band no one will care admits effectively unpoliced.

You could spend a lot more and not do any better, and you would need licences to properly do better.
