I think its a pedantic distinction between a single lever tap and a mixer tap.

The majority of what appear to be mixer taps in the UK actually keep two separate channels through the spout, so the hot and cold waters do not mix until leaving the tap.

I don't know for sure, but I think that is less common in the single lever type (which are also more modern), than in the twin control type.

That's certainly the case with my kitchen swan neck tap-thing.

But in a bath...seems sensible to me that a mixer like below would be designed to thoroughly blend the hot & cold; particularly if you've got a young child sitting in the bath.

When I re-plumbed the house I put cold on the left, because that's the way they'd always been since the house was built.

All my working life the plumbing industry has used hot on the left as accepted good practice! Building regulations approved document G (covers hot & cold water installation) has since it's introduction many years ago the following;-

"4.6 Where hot and cold taps are provided on a sanitary appliance, the hot tap should be on the left".

It is also accepted good practice with single lever & 2 lever mixer taps to have hot on the left as the operational preference.

Only place I know of where the taps are different is the grand kids house

the downstairs washbasin has them the wrong way round - an unlabelled

they were installed by her father - who runs a small/medium company who install bathrooms!!!!

It is always hardest to get stuff done if your relative is a professional in that area
I remember getting a verruca when I was a kid - my Dad was a Chiropedist
weeks went by and it wasn;t treated
then one day I came home at the normal time and a few minutes later by Dad came through from his surgery (it was part of the house)

He aske my Mum what this patient's name was as he couldn;t read her writing
which was weird because she was VERY neat
she just looked at him and said "It's your son - Mike go to the surgery - your Dad's doing your foot"

anyway - what was the subject???
