Hi All

for the past 3/4 weeks I have been exhausted, feeling very under the weather, I assumed it was down to the fact I cycled 24 miles a day in anything upto Minus 17.

BUT I have had a nice rest over Xmas and decided to go out yesterday, I only did 5 miles, it was quick and it was uphill, but my MHR was 104%, I got home feeling like I had a cold, now I feel its more like flu.

So my question is this:

Could I have had this cold/flu for the last 3/4 weeks waiting to hit me ????

Gaz

Just to add, I had a blood test on Xmas eve and the nurse said "Your as white as a ghost"

She then went on to say I was devoid of any colour what-so-ever.

I then abandoned my ride after just 3 miles I was feeling so bad.

Makes no odds, i'll suffer it out, but its just gotten me thinking TBH

Sounds like you need to start eating some proper northern food again and stop losing weight

My cold/bug has lasted nearly 3 weeks now, still not fully over it. Though thankfully it doesn't seem to have affected my appetite

Rest up, gb155. Take the time it takes to feel really well again - even if it seems deeply frustrating not to be getting back into training. From what I see around me, we've gotta see these badboybugs off good and proper when they hit us... or else they seem to come back for more.
Hope you're feeling very much better soon.

When I had flu, I couldn't even walk let alone ride a bike! I also couldn't sit up in bed or stand having the light on so I wouldn't have been asking questions on an online forum either! I doubt that you have flu...

I've had the kind of symptoms you describe a few times. The first time, I eventually gave way to temptation and went out on my bike before I was fully recovered. I only made it halfway up a local hill before things started to go 'a bit fuzzy'. I dismounted, blacked out and came round 20 minutes later in a pile of leaves behind a dry stone wall.

That episode frightened me so much that I haven't risked riding when ill again. I make damn sure that I have fully recovered before going out for a ride and even then, I don't push myself for a week or so after that.

If you are going stir crazy, I'd suggest going for a walk instead. If you feel okay, you can walk more briskly but slow down and go home at the first signs of distress.

Happy New Year Gaz I just got back fully on my feet after 3 weeks of similar to what you described. My 17 yr old son had it a similar time. The deathly white pallor ands lack of energy sound exactly the same.

To try and keep riding through it I think could put you in hospital ,give yourself a break for another week or two ,if you watch what you eat your not going to pile much if any weight back on,in my experience any weight gained while ill flies off when you get going again.

I did my first ride yesterday ,only 13 miles and it went ok, slower than normal but enjoyable.Just back from a similar ride now ,I normally take it easy when working nights anyway ,got 5 days off next week so hoping I still feel well enough to do some longer rides.

Good Luck in 2011 Gaz hope you are firing on all cylinders again soon.

Above the neck is ok. Below the neck stay indoors, you'll just compound it.
I've had a lousy head cold for a week but ridden through it every day. It's buggered off now.

Some viruses can wipe you out for months and can get very serious if you don't get the better of them. If you've been feeling like this for a while get to the doc and get some rest too. Check out the media - several nasty bugs going about right now with record numbers in hospital - don't become the next one to check-in!
