We're staying in a village about 15km south of Avignon and doing circular rides each day, so would be able to permanently re-inflate tyres with the track pump if necessary, but I appreciate the argument for taking a mini pump along on rides too. I have a Topeak Peakini mini pump, but it's probably on the bulky side of "mini". Might look around for a smaller one to take. Next thing would be...........anyone able to recommend a mini that can comfortably go to 100-110psi?

Lezyne Road Drive is one of the few that will go to that pressure without needing Popeye-size muscles. It does take a while though, especially on the short models.
If you've deep pockets there is a version that will take a CO2 cartridge in the end as well a being a pump.

e-rider, you are a saviour!

That looks exactly what I need. One of my main issues with most mini pumps is the direct attachment to the valve. I've managed to bend more than one valve stem in the past, so the Race Rocket would be perfect with its flexible adapter. Top recommendation, thanks!
there is a HPX version that is slightly longer and therefore easier to reach 100+ psi
in my experience no 'mini' pump gets to 100 psi easily though - it's always hard work!

I believe the French have air too. May have a faint whiff of cheese and garlic. :okay:

+1 for the pump. I use CO2 on the road bike but then I'm only a phone call away from help if needed and I have need it when I got it wrong using it. The inflator head and a supply of cartridges will amount to the same bulk/weight as a pump anyway.
They do indeed, but good luck inflating a Presta valve at your local garage.

Yes.

However, if they are larger width, a 16g cannister may not get the tyre to the right pressure.
We did the sums on this the other day. A 16g cannister should, theoretically get a 28mm 700c tyre to 90 psi, a 32mm 700c tyre to 70 psi. @Polite what size Marathon Plus are you running?

I use one of these for most short rides where I don't want to carry much. Its very good, it Bites down and locks on the valve, and has a trigger for slow release (to allow time to check the tube is settled before inflating to 110 PSI in a shot).

On a long ride I carry a pump too as I will likely have a backpack or panniers..

Oh and I've never noticed any deflation issues at least no more than my tyres usually deflate over time.

Why would you need Marathon Pluses and CO2?

Bombproof!!!

And if you do get a puncture, you'll never get them back on again!:cursing:
