Clutter!

As I grow older, house moves became perfect for getting rid of stuff. Breath of fresh air to see the new place with little stuff. Collectibles used to be big in the old days. I got rid of all that and just have the photos. My biggest regret was buying a piano that was hardly used and took up space. Mate of mine a bought pinball machine and jukebox. Others had pool tables. I was tempted. I am glad that I did not go to the deep end.

Clothes, much of it has been better days, so that was quick decision.

Enjoy the new place @tyred. Fantastic to have a change every now and then.

I seem to have accumulated a lot of assorted tools over the years. The house has the usual hand tools like screwdrivers etc tho' these are being superseded nowadays by power tools with multiple functions.
As you say, hand tools are being superseded which means they are becoming rare, which can only result in them becoming attractive to historians and collectors and therefore their value is increasing every day...................maybe.^_^

A bright spin on 'the country's ankle-deep in unwanted planes and hand drills'.

Father in law said to 'help yourself' in his shed, ahead of their imminent move. I was tempted by a plane, but thought, if I'm honest, am I likely ever to use it? I did bring back a handsaw (mine's old & blunt) and an olde-worlde mallet with a wooden head. Always flinch when I hit chisels with a hammer. But them aside, nothing. Excellent array of screws, nails, washers, but where would I put them? Left a shedful to its fate. *sigh*

Mebbe but I will be long gone by then I think. The other things I have in abundance are kitchen utensils as with boat, motorhome camping etc they accumulated and don't start on knives of all sorts.

I'm a hoarder.

There, I've admitted it!

When we moved here, just over 5 years ago, I took 7 car loads of valuable items collected over 26 years and stored safely in the loft junk to the tip. In the time since we moved in I seem to have acquired 50% of that, or very similar junk back into safe storage the garage!

As I'm not planning to go anywhere until I'm carried out in a box, it will be someone else's job to take it to the tip! They can drop me off there too if they like.

I'm going to have a temporary move back home to my parents for a few months.

If all goes according to plan I will moving in to a new build apartment in July or August. I had been looking at terraced town houses but everything I looked at seemed to need a lot of work. I decided this was big enough for me, was A-rated for energy efficiency and shouldn't need any work doing to it for a long time. It's also 7 sq. Metres bigger than my current flat and has a balcony and as a block of four apartments, each one has a separately fenced off "yard" about 22' X 12' (so I think I can sneak in a small bike shed...) It will still be within walking distance of my office too whenever I am expected to go back there.

I just hope the sale works out this time as I had agreed to buy it last month and they took them all of the market as apparently one buyer had bought the lot and now apparently that fell through so I was offered it again (albeit at a slightly higher cost).

I just hope my parents never decide to move as my Mum's hobby is buying useless junk at car boot sales. We'd need a whole fleet of 40' lorries!

As well as the screws I also took a few different types of saw, a hammer, an aldi special jigsaw, a power drill, loads of garden equipment like spades and forks, plant pots etc and some chisels and file’s. My FIL took the massive heavy duty woodwork tools. It was a transit load itself to just move the garage contents! The old stuff is the best, I couldn’t part with it and try and fix anything that breaks as the sentimental value from my Grandfather in law is high.

My parents have lived in their house for over 40 years. It’s far too big for them with a double garage and two shed full of stuff, plus the loft.
I would like them to downsize soon whilst they still have the energy. If they leave it much longer it will be too late.

We are definitely not minimalists, we’re continually throwing stuff out and donating to charity shops but the house is still rammed with stuff. I dread moving house.

We moved here 22 years ago. Not doing that again.
To be fair, we were in our original home for 18 years before selling a business and the tax man would have it if we didn't spend it so I bought a house to facilitate a life change before selling our original house and then bought what we thought was the perfect house only to realise that it probably was but just in the wrong location we sold that and bought another, but fell through so had to rent back end of last year and have just had an offer accepted on what I hope to be our last home for the next 25 years at least.

Been there, done that. Beware the expectation that they can fit the contents of a 4 bed house into a 2 bed bungalow
