Clueless on bike specs, need help on deciding which bike to choose here...

After looking at said bikes in store I'm back to being torn between the two bikes.

On one hand the comp is notably lighter than the sport, but the sport has thicker tires so it wouldn't be as much of a heavy transition from mountain bike-road/hybrid. Then again the extra weight would make it feel too similar to the heavy bikes I wanted to stay away from.. decisions decisions..

Also the sport looked nicer with the colours.. but that extra weight.. hmmm.

well both these bikes are compromises between a mountain bike/road bike more like leisure/commuting bikes

so with that said, mostly road go with the comp, mostly off road go with the mx

personally, i would just buy a mtb or road bike but then i dont like all this in between half assed bikes

either im going to blast about full crack on the roads or im going to go all out on the trails

I'd suggest the Hybrid Comp, the Sport doesn't seem to add anything really, suspension doesn't smooth out your ride, not really, it's intended for absorbing big shocks, like you might find on a mountain trail. On a canal tow-path, forest trail or road, there are far more important considerations in terms of ride quality, and tyres are right at the top of the list. It's easier and more pleasant to ride around pot holes I find than to crash through them

The hybrid comp is significantly lighter, and will be easier to ride, it's got a very wide range of gears, so don't worry about it being difficult to get up hills. The tyres have a decent reputation, they're not the best, but offer some puncture protection, and they are easily replaceable. For the sort of riding you've said you're likely to do I think it'll be the more enjoyable bike.

That being said, I'd suggest going back to the shop and test-riding them both, if possible in the car park.
