Hey

Sorry, I don't live in the Southampton area but like you I would also like to join a cycle club within Brighton & Hove. I'm not really a lycra kinda girl and just have a mountain bike. Some of the clubs in my area look like their really into riding (and although I love cycling am looking for a bit more of leisurely pace) so at the moment I don't feel there is a club that 'fits' at the moment.

I'm also quite shy so can appreciate some of the anxiety around this but def worth perservering and I guess the first time is always the worst. East Sussex runs a summer programme of rides that anyone can turn up too so am gonna trying a get myself on some of these to start off.

Have you tried your local library for clubs? Your local council wesbite may also have further info about the ones in your area.

Failing that I'm sure someone more local to you will have some ideas.

Good luck!

You're welcome to join me on a ride to Romsey lol. I live in Southampton, I think there are a few clubs around here and there. I'd pop into one of the shops on Shirley high street. I think one of them runs a club but I'm not sure whether it's suitible for people riding a mountain bike.

I know how you feel though as I ride a mountain bike too. :-)

My wife is a lonely cyclist too Powla. She's too slow for me but is considering going to one of this lot's events

Hi Kimz

The sotonia club runs start at North Baddesley crossroads at 9.30 every Sunday (9.00 when the clocks change). There are usually 3 or 4 groups, the slowest will do about 35 to 40 miles around 12mph average with a tea stop which should be ok for you. It's all very friendly and there will be a mix of riders (and bikes) out. It's fine to come along a few times before you join. We have a reliability trial next sunday so there may not be many on the club run, the following sunday (7.3.10) we've got a time trial on the P164 which starts just outside Lyndhurst on the Beaulieu road at 10.00, come and meet some club members if you like, there'll be tea & cake after.
