Went out with a club once and quite enjoyed it, but wouldn't do it regularly... mostly enjoy cycling on my own, occasionally with friends, but only if similar level to me. Some I know who (like Mr Pig) it'd be silly for me to go out with. With the club, my one experience was really friendly (got chatting a to a couple of blokes) but one said that certain peeps probably wouldn't speak to you for the first 4 weeks or so, till they knew you could cycle... well, that's arsey in my book, so I wouldn't like that! Also, it may seem silly, but I'm cackhanded, and changing a puncture (like today ) takes me a while. To do so in the company of impatient others would have me faffing around like a faffer from Faffington, and I'd hate that too!

I joined with some trepidation having heard lots of scare stories about cliques and having your legs ripped off.

Have had a great time since joining CRC, done my first century and also got some big rides in. Other Members have been friendly and made me feel welcome.

Have done a couple of TT'S which I would not have done otherwise and am a little sad that its the last individual TT at Petts this Tuesday.
Its like anything in life you have to put a little effort in and I am not the most outgoing of people but feel quite settled and pleased that I made the effort to join.

I went along to my first ever club ride this morning, I really enjoyed it.

I had gone along because they were meant to be doing a beginner ride, when I got there they were splitting up into a faster and slower group as there was about 15 riders. Anyway, took the beginner group to the meet point and was quite suprised by the fairly sedate pace.

On the way back I went with the faster group, I was half expecting to get blown off the back as my normal average is only about 17mph but I easily managed to keep up with the fastest guys at the front and we dropped the rest behind us (bit of a sprint back to the start).

You seem to go much faster when with other similar riders, we were doing 30ish on the flat for a bit, barely dropping below 25 on gentlish inclines.

To sum up, I'll be doing that again, really good fun!

i'm a member of www.kingstonwheelers.com (look under introducing...for Gerry) i can quite catergorically state that without thier help i would still weigh 21 stone and my life would be crap

but since i joined i've lost almost 6 stone, made many new friends been on a club trip to Majorca and now thoroughly enjoy the sport i even competed in the Etape 2008,without their help i would be stuffing my face with sh!t

basically i put myself about, going on the forum and making a nuisance of myself, going to as many pub nights as possible ,not bad for a london cabbie:biggrin:

Christ ! i'm even arranging a get together with other CC members up in Yorkshire of all places and about to meet members of a club 170 miles north of where i live:wacko:

Believe you me there is a club for everyone out there, but then again everyones' different

I'm without club though have been in a few and know some in the locality.

In my area sotospeak ive about 4 i could ride with but time considerations its better I ride on my own.

I find, anyhow, that they ride EARLY Sunday and I like to get up later than 8am on a Sun. In the weeks enough for me.

People are cliquey in clubs and some have such weird atmospheres.

Stiil, I suppose that as long as you ride, then...

I've joined poole wheelers, but I'm yet to turn up to a club run, hopefully I should be able to make the club 10 this wednesday...worried I'll be peer pressured into buying an expensive bike (which I do want but can't afford).

I'm serious considering joining Garstang Cycling Club - their C rides are for beginners and people that don't want to / can't go very fast and you don't have to have a road bike. Plus, as the C rides are about 25-30miles and it's 11 each way there and back, that gives a decent mileage for a Saturday run. Plan is to keep doing that for a bit and then hopefully get a road bike and eventually move up to the B group... A is definitely too serious for me!

The people we have met from their so far have been great!

My local CTC has evening rides at a leisurely (ish) pace that stop at a local hostelry for a beer or 5. I've done a few sunday rides too - less beer but more tea / bacon / cakes!

I used to occasionally go out with the Wolverhampton Wheelers, and I was a member of Audax UK for a bit, but as a rule I prefer to go out on my own. Or not at all, as seems to be increasingly the case these days.

I don't have the time to join a club, I already have too much going on in life without having something else become a chore when it doesn't deserve to be. I also don't cycle enough yet.
