Clothes for fatties

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask for recommendations on brands/websites that sell cycling clothing for the rotund. I'm 19.5 stone and 5,9. So, large gut, big chest, short legs (29 inseam). This makes it almost impossible to find stuff that fits. I recently bought a cycling jacket sized at XXXL (one size larger than my regular t-shirts). It was so small I couldn't even get it over my shoulders. Where do they get their sizing from?

I saw one brand that did gear for the bigger cyclist but wanted £70+ for a simple jacket. All I'm after is something lightweight that can keep a bit of drizzle off. I wear my CrossFit gear (Under Armour) for base layers so that's handled. I probably ought to get some shorts too -- but I don't like spandex. It's like looking at a zeppelin in a condom. I bought a pair of MTB shorts, again a size larger, and they were like wearing budgie smugglers.

Any recommendation for sensible pricing and sensible sizing would be much appreciated!

Or try eBay etc for lightly used fat lad at the back clothes

Look at Altura for regular sized clothing. Avoid Italian.

Or even the muddy fox or karrrimor stuff from sports direct but could be boil in the bag

I expect that's the brand he quotes as too expensive?

It is indeed.

For your size I would be looking at more hiking tops and lightweight jackets, these you cant get in bigger sizes than cycling specific stuff. I'm getting one of these and they go upto a 53 inch chest, one of these would hopefully fit you. http://www.keela.co.uk/stashaway-pro-jacket.html

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check out some hiking tops. I think I have a Millets near me so I'll have a look in there and see what they've got. As I'm currently on a weight-loss programme, I'm reluctant to spend too much when a couple of months down the line I might need something smaller, so a cheaper hiking jacket might be the better option.

Thanks, Nibor! That looks like a great option at a good price. I'll keep an eye on it for when the larger size comes back in stock.

Shower proof is fine by me. It's unlikely I'll be out doing many hours in heavy rain. At least until I get my fitness/mileage up.

@StaffCycler ... I would personally suggest dont spend much on cycling cloths .. Trust me.. you would be spending again in three months time.

I was 18.26 stones a year and half ago .. now 13.62.. all my cloths including cycling ones went to charity ... ( I was xxl and now size L/M )..

Brought most of my stuff from sport direct including decent trainers.

Just pedal more ... Happy cycling ...
