After a real struggle to find a make/model that would fit my odd sized feet, I've finally got a pair of cycling shoes to use with the SPD pedals I bought about 2 months back!! Given the roads outside my house are still covered in a sheet of snow and ice, it'll be the spin bike at the gym this weekend and thought it might be an opportunity to practice clipping in and out. My question is - is it okay to use my shoes on the spin bike at the gym (which has double sided pedals with SPD cleat connection on one side)? I assume it's okay, but wondered if there was risk of damaging the cleats if alternating between sets of pedals. Sorry if that's a stupid question (all the gear, no idea:blush:)

As an aside, finally found a pair of Sidi shoes that would fit my wide foot. Paid a little more than I wanted but with the bonus that I found them at £104.99 online, when they were £149.99 in most places. Would put it in the post a bargain section but they've now reverted to £149.99 so assume I may have just got lucky with a temp pricing error:becool:

The Sidi shoes will last 10 years plus and should be more comfy than cheaper shoes - so I'd give yourself a pat on the back!

Cheers, nice to know. Must admit I didn't set out to pay more than I needed to, but as soon as I tried them they were so more comfortable and just had a bit of extra width which was the problem in finding a fit with other makes. So after a long hunt, I'm pleased with the outcome - and as a bonus they look good enough to wear out on the town (although that would reinforce my wife's claims of my mid-life crisis:wacko:).

Here for rides.
blimey. posh gym. I have to take my own spd pedals with me and fit them before class. I have three spd equipped bikes and only one pair of shoes. so what you plan should not be a problem

Cheers all. Not a posh gym, just the local public sports centre which was done up last year and happily all the spin bikes have double sided pedals. Gave them a go and surpisingly for the first time in them found them really comfortable and natural. Was good to practice with them without risk of falling off; for a while (in reality only about 30 seconds) I was wondering if I was going to be stuck on the bike at closing as I tried to unclip:biggrin: Think I'll have to do a fair bit of practice on the drive before venturing out in traffic. All in all pleased with my new shoes, although still sweated buckets; those spin bikes can really give you a workout:biggrin:

In danger of the repeating all the first clipless moment threads, had to fix a couple of things on my bike earlier, so had a little go with the new shoes on the patio. After clipping in and out leaning against the wall, got a little cocky and set off across the patio....panic...horrible slow motion feeling as the bike falls to the ground with me going with it...fortunately the neighbours weren't out and the wife and children had popped out:blush: Some more practice methinks:biggrin:!!! Easy enough getting in and out when standing still, but when both feet clipped in, just seems that bit trickier. I'm sure it'll get easier. Finished off with a few more goes with just one foot clipped in just in and started to get the hang of it.
