I was out today with my brother-in-law and he persuaded me to do a cat 4 climb (Dollar Beg) It wasn't that long ago I would not have dreamt of trying it but I did it......very slowly but I did it and it wasn't that bad I just kept plugging away. I do a spin class every saturday and I think that helps

It is 0.7 mile with an average gradient a tad over 6%. That is an easy climb (assuming no cobbles or some other spanner in the works). Even at 10% at point's it is not particularly steep, it's less than a mile, just suffer it.

There is a huge difference between getting up a climb and getting a fast time btw, you can hold a Hill Climb on the most innocuous climb and people will still suffer like mad for a fast time.

I was brought up cycling on the flat coast of sussex. I avoided the hills like the plague. When I did ride them I just felt as if I went backwards. Since living in Ireland and actually having hills I've started to go looking for them. All I can say is they get easier. After a long, long time.

Know it well, my better half was due to race up it as part of the BTTC championship until our car accident. I was in the vale today, lovely, but even better towards Rutland. Come on out on one of my forum rides, nice and easy but we can give you hill climbing advice. Check out Informal Rides thread, I'm running one this weekend coming
