Baby wipes to remove the grit and general scum.
Then window cleaner on some kitchen roll which removes any scabby oil etc...
 
Water and soap. I don't do anything specific to the braking surfaces.
This, although I do sometimes wipe them over with THIS, it's brilliant for all sort of bike related stuff.

Removes sticky residue in the blink of eye, cleans chains, cassettes and rings brilliantly, is superb for fitting handlebar grips as it allows them to slide on and get in position but then evaporates to nothing leaving a secure fit.

I'm never without the stuff TBH.

If polishing a wheel back up, would something like Silvo work, or would that cause the entire bike to instantaneously dissolve into a small pile of rusty mush?? :scratch::whistle:

I don't actually know what is the active ingredient in Silvo and those wadding polishes. They do work very well though. I use Autosol, which is a mild abrasive in a paste like toothpaste and works really well.
