Time has indeed been kind to the lovely Clare Grogan but she didn't always look that nice and she was a bit of a terror as a youngster! A band I used to be in were playing at a place called The Lodestar near Preston in 1977/78 (can't remember exactly). Although we were very much of the punk movement, one of our number, Phil Ash, retained a huge, curly mop of hair (think of an auburn Marc Bolan!) Grogan's band were also on the bill but I don't think they were yet called Altered Images at that time. Anyway, she was pretty aggressive and shoved her face in Phil's and in the most Gorbals accent I've ever heard, asked, "and whit the fahkkin hell d'ye caw that thang?" about his hair. The scar on her cheek which is now almost invisible was vivid red and gave her a hard appearance which she certainly played up to!
