I've got a list as long as a cats arm of jobs to do today, all housework related

But when I'm finished I can build my new bike

Insurance has paid out for the nicked one

Cats' arms are relatively short, I know, I've seen their bones.

Sod the chores, build the bike!

I did a little household chore yesterday, not even on my own place, but the house I'm keeping an eye on for a friend. Couldn't get the back gate open as the lock was too stiff, so I oiled it. There was no 3 in 1, so I used sunflower oil. Worked a treat this morning...

I think there's something about mixing vegetable oils and mineral oils - like it shouldn't be done. Think Castrol R. or sharing needles with different blood groups.

Thanks. Well, it was do that, or not get in through the gate. I'll tell my friend to flush it out and relube it when he gets back, perhaps.

or, of course, make sure he uses veg oil in the future!

IIRC Locks shouldn't be oiled at all. The oil gets on the keys and then onto everything else in bags or pockets. Locks should be lubricated with graphite or a lubricant that evaporates off.

Veg oil will leave a residual that clogs up the lock mechanism. Look around a cooker that hasn't been cleaned and you will see the gunge that veg oil leaves.

Chores before the new bike, that's not a way to start a new relationship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's ok, it's only a bike

Chores are finished, just about to have a spot of lunch and then get spannering.

Bloody hell, I wish I hadn't bothered - I wouldn't have done, except I needed to get my bike into the back yard.
