Choice of tool for removing tyres

I got shown a tip on a bike maintenance course which allows tyres to be removed with just bare hands. I do prefer metal tyre levers but it does work and has been used once for real. Luckily, I rarely have visits from the p******e fairy!

This way...almost. It takes me a little more effort than this guy. The thing is to loosen the bead on both sides and push them together and then pull and waggle the tyre off on the opposing side. Once a little is done the rest is a cinch.

You're right, though....this bloke made it look easy....I'm imagining trying that halfway up Cairn O'Mount in November :angry: , and ending up doing a 'Millar' in frustration.....
