this is my 10 yo on his shiny new
islabike luath 26.
mr legg will be disappointed to know that it's off to the bike shop tomorrow to get fitted with mudguards

8spd wide range cassette on the back and a single chainring, which is probably right for my boy, although he has a tendency to not bother with gears - i suspect he's a natural ss-er and is going to nd up having fixed fun!
they are absolutely brilliant bikes, and hold their values really well for resale - check completed auctions on
ebay for an idea, but getting back 70% and sometimes more of the purchase price isn't unusual for one that's been looked after. i'm quite evangelical about 'em. they are quite flexible sizing too - i'm 5'1" and can ride the 26, altho the bars are really narrow and the drops very shallow. they also do 2 700c wheeled versions (both with a double chainring), the small was a slightly better size for me but i could have ridden either.
(the littly got a cnoc 14 in july, and the beinn 24 that the big'un has just about grown out of is off to another friend who lives nearby for a couple of years as soon as i've picked up a hack bike for him, since that is what the beinn is currently serving as!).
