Did anyone read over the weekend about the humble stick being voted as the best child's toy of all time?

With the empty cardboard box in runner-up position ;)

mechano and scalectrix and HO-00

mecchano satisfied my hunger to contruct things which has stayed with me all my life;)
brief love affair with trains ,soon overtaken by scalextic which I used to heavily modify and elevate the track up over furniture:ohmy:

Best of all was my extensive boxed set of Corgi cars in mint condition. Worth £thousands today my Pop sold the lot for £12.00 when I was away at school. barsteward  I'd saved and bought every one myself.
Never forgave him that .
Spent my entire childhood on Jaco roller skates. Skated everywhere including down the isles of Woolies to get my `All-day' hair cream (huge Teddyboy quiff) Skated 15 miles down the Southend Arterial with a mate aged 9 dead lucky to get a lift back phew. Used to hang onto back of cars and lorries and skate to the swim pool or Wansted Flats fair.
Took a portable valve radio apart aged 9 and from then on a love affair with electronics

Nothing I love better than taking things apart and fixing/improving them ....I'm still a big kid at heart really.;)

Oh lord, the sight of you big butch chaps all trying to remember the name of Strawberry Shortcake has had me laughing out loud!;)

We had spacecraft top trumps, which was weird, as half the things in it were fictional, so you had the Eagle lunar lander, feeble on all counts, against the Millennium Falcon, against some thing made up for the game with a top speed of 5x the speed of light and in service sometime in the 35th century... And we had dinosaurs and you knew a trilobite beat everything for being old...

I used to have a gun/car combination. It was a large plastic gun, and you loaded the car into a bullet shaped thing, loaded the gun and fired the car across the floor.

Had that. It was called ricochet racers.
