Hi,

After a long thought, I'm going to buy an electric bike in the end given my commute, and it could fold into the boot of my car. My landlord won't let me store a bike in the house

I've also then thought "Hmm. I could perhaps do with a bike I don't care about too much if it gets stolen" I could pot about in the city centre, riding from a town not too far out (40 minute walk) but then I wasn't sure what I should buy?

I'd essentially use it somewhat occasionally, perhaps on the weekends

The OP has said he wants it to fold, in which case it might be a struggle to find anything for cheap. A better idea might be to find something used and convert it, still won't be cheap.
If it's a full size to leave outside there are some bargains to be had on hybrids and older MTBs.

Why does it need to be electric? Health reasons?

Also, you say it's for a commute but then you go on to say it's for occasional weekend riding?

What sort of car? If a hatchback, you could just put the seats down and slide it in, may need to remove front wheel if a big frame/small car

Otherwise, Decathlon do a new folder for £200

Hey. I'll be getting an electric one, in part because I haven't cycled in a long while, in part because I don't want to arrive to work sweaty, and in part because my knees start hurting after a while

I'll be storing that foldable one in my 2007 Prius. I'm saying that my main bike would be stored in my car, however I'd also like another bike that's good (a cheap one) just for the occasional weekend riding. It'd probably have to stay outside given I doubt I have enough room for both my bike, and I'd want to fit it in the boot if I have passengers

The folding mechanism thingy is a bit screwed in my car too which makes that a lot harder

Sorry. I should have clarified. My main bike would fold, so I couldn't store this on top. What hybrid would you recommend? - A used one that is. Would that be better than a mountain bike?
