It’s Spring! Time to fettle some bike-based annoyances in the garden whilst listening to the radio …

Except someone seems to have stolen my bike stand. And only the bike stand. I still have the lawnmower, workbench and folding bike. I guess someone really needed a bike stand.

Anyway I know you can get them for under £30 off Aldi and Lidl and for my purposes that will be fine. The one I had was from Lidl. However neither place has them at the moment and it’s a lovely day.

Has anyone got a heads up on where I can get a similarly bargain-priced stand today? Any offers you know of? Or alternatively convince me one of the stands that are twice the price or more are worth it!

I bought one of these about 5 years ago, brilliant for the price!

Thanks both - I was after one I could pick up today ideally - PlanetX used to be great for that for me but you can't collect anymore (and I'm not even sure if they are still in Rotherham anyway) The Decathlon one is not in stock near me unfortunately.

In the end I went old-school (lean it on something and turned it upside down when no-one was looking) and came across a rather annoying issue I'm not sure how to solve, so I'm going to wait and see if any turn up in Das Supermarkets soon.

Details of the issue are here if you're interested.

Halfords have an OK supermarket type stand, it's currently £45 so not super cheap. I've just replaced the one I bought on ebay after about 12 years as all the plastic parts had gone brittle and were starting to snap.

The kid has just woken up and asked if I want to go to a car boot sale. Who knows, I might get lucky. Or even see my own one for sale …

@Gunk that’s a bloody genius hack for hanging the bike, why haven’t I ever thought of using a set of drop bars.

It certainly is - and it would have helped me today when I had to cut the seat post clamp bolt out of a bike I've just bought second hand from a friend. The hex head was completely rounded off and didn't protrude enough for me to grind a slot in it and use a screwdriver. A few seconds with a cutting blade on the Dremel soon pinged the clamp off. But...

I then had no means of clamping the bike in the stand other than by resting the top tube gently in the open jaws of the clamp - it didn't occur to me to do the work on the stand before I cut the bolt off 🤦‍♂️
