Hello Kingy, always nice to see someone getting out there and organsing charity rides. I have helped to organise a few myself, there is actually quite a lot of work to do in preparation!

Depending on the distance you are going, the biggest tip I can give you is to get out there and train, train, train. Build yourself up so you can manage a
50 mile ride.

On sponsorship, just giving.co.uk is pretty good. I try and leave it as late as possible if you plan on physically going around friends/colleagues with a sponsorship form - so they don't forget about it!

Remember to let the police know whichever counties you are passing through, especially if in a large group.

You might want to get the local paper etc involved if you really want to
boost your profile?

hi mate i really have no idea of what distance i am going to do i was planning on 4/7 days so i can raise as much as i can by doing a long distance. i am ghoing to try and get our local paper involved and some local business. i will be doing this ride on my own unless some1 wants to join me. i realise there is alot of work involved so have given myself 10 months to get ready

Try and think of landmarks for the start and finish - it'll help people visualise the effort (Land's End to John O'Groats, Coast to Coast... etc Maybe one big city to another). Whereabouts are you? Also, can you use any landmarks to make it tougher (and therefore more impressive to givers) - any big hills or anything.

ive just looked on google maps and i think that i might plan a route from newark, notts (were i live) to northhampton to london to cardiff to birmingham to liverpool to manchester to sheffeild to lincoln to newark all round its just over 650 miles but i would have to plan the route properly to get a exact figure. i could give myself 7 days to do it which gives me about 90 miles per day does this seem acheivble with 10 months training

The cities you mention are really not ideal cycling territory, particularly for someone perhaps lacking local knowledge. Navigation tends to be more complicated and maintaining a reasonable average speed more difficult in built up areas. Can you not find a more rural route, perhaps Hull to Harwich?http://www.sustransshop.co.uk/products/5080-ncn-east-of-england-hull-to-harwich

i have taken this into consideration and realise its not practical or very safe so thinking of a more coastal route.

Just from a quick look at the map, how about nipping east to Boston and the Wash, then doing the coast (as near as you can on the roads) of East Anglia, and back up via Cambridge and Peterborough? Not sure of the mileage, but you could tweak it.

I happen to know there is a CTC route that does the North Norfolk coast, part of a bigger loop.

I reckon with so much training time, 90 miles a day is doable, yes. Will you be supported, or carrying all yur own gear? Camping or B and B? Those are the sort of things that can affect your mileage, as well as your fitness. Might be as well to build in some rest time - 90 miles a day for 4 days is one thing, but for a week, you might need a rest day in the middle.

that is roughtly 160 miles but was hoping to do triple that and seeing as this will be a charity ride i think ill camp to keep costs down and if i cant persuade my partner i was hoping for her to follow me up in the car with spares and food ect
