Changing Cranks

Are you buying a triple or double front crank. I got the octalink removed and sora put on my bike but as one is internal and the other external need to male sure the crank and chain don't rubbish the front deruler with the difference in bottom bracket

just need to re install the Front derailleur . tech docs have the info to make it easy.

I'm going to go for a compact crank, would I only need to adjust the front derailleur if I change to a triple?

Yes, you'll be fine if you swap like for like.
