Back problems are notoriously difficult to deal with, there are rarely effective fixes for chronic back pain caused by anatomy rather than injury (and the surgical fixes carry massive risk potentially with little gain). I had surgery 20 odd years ago to remove a slipped disc and up until this year I'd be fine (other than a 6 inch scar and a numb calf). Then my leg got injured, tried to train for Ride 100, screwed by back as I wasn;t able to use my leg efficiently, and then 'strongly advised' by specialty to withdraw. A ballot place, so I'll re-enter for next year and the driver who knocked me off my bike can cover this year's lost entry fee. Weight, as frustrating is can be, is actually a massive factor for backs and all joints. My knee plays up when I gain weight as I have done this year, now trying to lose it again. It is however much easier to gain than to lose

Hopefully, your specialist can help, but I fear it'll be weight loss, pills and physio that are suggested. I find a heat pad warmed in the microwave or a hot bath with some radox helps, along with stretches

Yeah i tend tomanage it with a combo of heat/cold packs after the flare up & then the soreness with painkillers, though I try not to take them for longer than 2 days if I can avoid it.

Sorry to hear you had an accident, that sounds horrible! For the most part, I hope mine can be remedied through non-drastic treatment, but at least going private I know that tests will bed one that can eliminate spinal/muscular defects.
