Have you gone the tubular route Scott? They are great to use but a pain in the ass to maintain. Far better to get HP wheels IMHO - don't forget you will have to train on these wheels as well.
Rollers are for track and road racing. Turbos are useful to incorporate resistance in the warm up. Most people will ride the course beforehand as it gives them an idea of the surface (if they've never ridden it before) and how to gauge the effort based on any inclines and the wind.
It's easy enough with a 10 mile course - give yourself half an hour to ride it before the event at 75% and throw in some short hard efforts towards the end. This plan doesn't exactly work in a field of 120 unless you are in about the first 20 on the start sheet, but then you can hop on the turbo while waiting.
