I think it's a good sign I'm jealous of my mum's new bike. Few scuffs here and there, and the front light needs repairing/replacing but other than that, great bike. Her battery is bigger than my Hase Pino's! Seller gave me £20 off for the faulty light so that's good of him, he seemed like a genuine bloke and didn't realise the light had issues. Enviolo stepless gear hub too, very high end. Mum will pick it up tomorrow and I'll help her get it on the train to Manchester from Milton Keynes

Hope that goes okay, some trains have bikes stored vertically so hopefully if that is the case there is someone to help her get it down at MK and off the train.

Good son that I am, I made sure to:
  • Minimise the number of changes she has to make
  • Make sure the fast train she was on was a Pendolino (so no bat cave bikes)
  • Got the bike on the first two trains (inc. Pendolino) for her.
All she's got to look forward to is trying to get the bike on the train from Manchester Pic. onwards. I'm hoping some kind stranger will help her get it on the carriage, or a member of staff. Sadly due to other appointments she has tomorrow we only spent a few hours together today, but we managed to spend some time getting her bearings on the bike, pop over to Halfords to buy a Woods to Schrader valve converter, and then a detour on the way home to ride along the river together. It really is a lovely bike, I hope she gets on well with it. Here's a photo of the Bloom and its new owner 😁

Well-done you for sorting all that out. A seriously good bike in great condition. No wonder Mum looks pleased

Thanks, yes I'm feeling rather pleased with myself. There is a part two to this tale though, it's seemingly incompatible with her (and my) Ortlieb pannier bags 😟. I've posted here. I never thought there'd be an issue with compatibility between Gazelle bicycles and Ortlieb pannier bags, but apparently there is! Not a massive deal I guess but annoying it looks like she'll have to buy a new bag for it when the ones she already has are fine.

Looks like one for Ortlieb QL3.1 mounts

Hmm, that would mean a new bag/s again anyway wouldn't it? It's frustrating she can't use the existing bags she's got. Anyway, seems the journey is going well:

"Just on (last connecting train). Train before it late. Found station staff man as my train came in and he helped me on the train. A lovely Gazelle rider spotted me as I came off the Avanti platform and spoke to me on three separate occasions. He had my bike’s younger sister, a Sprite or Spirit, I think. He was full of praise for them. Think switching the bike on helped us up the static walk thing/ incline, that should have been moving 😀. Listened to a lovely piano player between times. I had the full experience!"
