I'm coming in late on this one but... did you perhaps remove the jockey wheel in the operation. These wheels are directional - not because the bearing only wants to turn in one direction but because the wheels are offset to one side. If you install it in reverse, it moves the chain over to the side like in the photo.
No, all I did in the first instance was replace my chain. it was only later that i changed the jockey wheels - and I put them in the right way round. and this did not solve the problem.
