In that case, it's likely to be cable stretch.

You'll have a barrel adjuster where the inner cable exits the outer on the downtube. Turn it anti-clockwise a quarter turn at a time and see if that helps. Keep track of how much you've turned it though, so you can turn it back again if you've turned it the wrong way and it gets worse. (I always find it hard to figure out which way is anti-clockwise when I'm standing by the bike!)

I will do as you say on Monday, as I'm riding my mtb tomorrow. might even be snowing up here on Mon/Tue

PS.. The new stem has worked a treat..

I agree with lulubel with the bike being so new cable stretch is the most likely cause.when. my bikes were new the lbs shop i got them both from wanted them back after 6 weeks to adjust all cables.Mine have both been fine.Again you tube will show you how to do it.

Its funny how different bike shops do things differently..
Giant TCR1 shop said bring bike back after 200kms for check up which I did,
Trek mtb shop on my Elite 8.5 said bring it back in 8 weeks for check up and then in 16 weeks for check up..
So one check up on the Giant and two on the Trek..

I should of put this in the first post sorry guys..
Its a Giant TCR 1 with near as 1000 road miles.

I swapped out a lightweight shimano chain on my TCR way before 1000 miles, it had stretched. I fitted a new KMC X10.93 and have no problems after more than 1000 miles.

Also, learn how to re-index your gears and adjust rear derailleur, it may sounds scary at first, but once you understand what you're doing, it will save you workshop fees and won't take very long at all.

Oddly enough my lbs said 4 or 5 weeks for first check up. Never been a problem because every time i pop in for any adjustments it's free.

Morning Billy...

I have to say the Giant shop are a bit odd as you can ring them up and they dont answer the phone and send them an email and they dont reply.. yet walk into the shop and you would think I'm his lost brother.. odd?
The Malaga Trek are nothing but friendly and helpful.
But in the morning I will put the TCR on the bikestand and re look at the tube video and see if I can adjust the bike if not I will take it to the LBS and let him have a go.. then to Malaga Trek if that fails

Morning Paul.
It may well be worth using the trek shop for all your cycling needs as they sound a better outfit. They will be glad of your continued business just as my local shop is. The free adjustments i receive are on a bike they didn't sell me but as i have purchased from them they regard me as a useful customer and go the extra yard to retain my custom, of which i am delighted to do.

When I watched Utube on how to do the cable adjustment he showed as having a big cog and little cog adjusters too and as the noise is mostly coming from gears 6/7/8/9/10 the little cog adjuster might need a turn as well..

The adjusters for the 'big cog' or 'small cog' are for the travel of the derailleur and will only need adjusting if your chain is trying to run off the cassette on the highest or lowest gear. I don't understand why you are worrying yourself with this if the bike is new. This should be sorted by tbe supplying dealer.

I understand what you are saying but I want to learn how to do things on my bike as that gives me great satisfaction just as much as riding..

Just got the bike in the front room.. shown here..

The problem is the guard on the front derailleur is catching on the chain in the gears of 5/6/7/8/9/10 so needs to be adjusted..
There seems to be a 5mm bolt that you would losen and move the guard then re- tighten..
Am I about right on this.

You should only move the guard if it is not in line with the chain. If it is rubbing on the chain it sounds like it may need adjustment via the screws.

Well I've made a right pigs ear of it by undoing the 5mm nut and the derailleur all dropped out of place and its a mess, so I've taken it too the bike shop in the village and all he said was pick it up in the morning..
So that didn't go as planned..
