The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Funnily enough I'm just come in from doing that...

Ingredients

1 Jar of Olives
1/2 pint of white spirit

Instructions

Remove Chain, (PowerLink helps)
Whilst removing chain,eat olives.
pour white spirit into empty jar
pour chain into jar
Agitate, you may require some rumba music for this...

remove sparkly chain and drip dry.

Lubricate with ungent of choice

Green or black olives? Brine? Should I rinse the jar before adding white spirit? Can I use an empty pickled beetroot jar instead?

Nah - don't think I'll bother - I'll just wipe the chain - and apply Progold Prolink as usual.

Seriously look up the Mickle Method. All cleaners leave residue that if not removed prevent lubricant from working properly. All you need is a rag and patience.

That will leave the plates nice and shiney, how do you replace the grinding paste on the bearing surfaces with lubricant?

I spray a load of GT85 on the chain, then wipe all the dirt off with a rag, then put a blob of oil (usually too much) on each link. It's hardly the most sophisticated method, but I ride an Apollo, and most of it's little brothers and sisters probably never see a drop of oil in their lifetime.
