Cheers , I'll give that a go , I'd have thought a tighter cable would pull it further, is that not the case

I think you are correct, tighter cable brings the front derailleur further out. Slacker cable would potentially aggravate your problem.

The tight cable will not allow the mech to get its full travel, and there will be a bit of a pull on the mech when the chain is on the big ring. I've done lots of front mechs, including triples, and the cable only needs to be tight enough to get the mech onto the big ring, which means there is a bit of slack when it's on the small ring.

The problem in here seems to be that the chain is dropping to the small ring, so potentially you want the derailleur inner plate to be further out to stop that, which requires more tension.

In any case, as @Ajax Bay has pointed out, the problem seems to be that when the chain is in a larger sprocket it is pulling itself out of the big ring. This would indicate that the problem is that the large chainring is too far out.

All sorted guys , it was extra tension that did it plus I changed slightly the angle the cable pulled from now I'm crosschaining like a goodn , thanks again for all the ideas and tips it really is good to have a knowledge pool like you lot

Please be clear - did you reduce the tension or increase it?
