Chain/Crank Binding Problem

Thanks for checking. Are the chainring bolts tight? How old/many km is the chain and have you measured the chain to check it's not worn (ie elongated by more than 0.75%)?

I use the large chainring 95% of the time

But the symptoms described do not point to a worn chainring. As @Yellow Saddle said earlier: "You [we] haven't nailed the problem yet."

Thanks again for the reply, but as i said, ive only just bought this particular bike so i don't know its history other than what i was told - and the overall condition bears this out - that it was little used. The main feature was a fair old coating of dust! I've just ordered a chain measure, but using a micrometer i don't detect any wear at all.

What with the red herrings, as i have at least now identified the symptoms properly, i think perhaps i should start a new thread.
