Any idea on what specific model of KMC?
On a singlespeed bicycle I once had road salt that fret up pin ends causing link to break.
I walked to nearby city repair place, they replaced the chain and the replacement lasted 5 weeks, while I was used to 6-8 months. Go figure. After replacing it with same model/type chain as before and always, it went back to 6-8 months.
They might call it "about normal", yes, for THEIR choice, they don't tell you and they don't ask.

How could that possibly work?
I don't know, saw here a chance to narrow down to an explanation, that worked for me latest, put a new chain on very worn sprockets and reoccurring clunk, never had before. Returned home, took chain back off to check teeth, decided to flip chain when back on, clunks were gone, fixed gear bike.
