Plastic - a wonderful engineering material which has many uses, but gets over-used and manufacturers don't always pick the correct type when speccing products.
I bought a Park
CM-5 chain scrubber. The first one lasted one use and the plastic around the metal clip which secures the top and bottom together when the cleaner is being used crazed and cracked off. I sent it back, the bike shop sent another out and it arrived cracked in the same place.
Got a refund and bought the Halfrauds
Bikehut Chain cleaner kit. Again, made of plastic and will therefore break in time, but works for now.
I agree with the concerns about solvent cleaners washing off all of the lubricant from the chain, also that unles you are a pedant it won't all come out of the chain and will probably wash off some of the lube you apply.
I think when my current chain scrubber dies I'll switch to the Mickle method, or a mix of it and others.
Does anyone make a belt-drive bike, that'd get rid of the chain problems
p.s. speaking of plastic being used to make inappropriate things, anyone remeber the
Itera Plastic Bicycle? I remember seeing them in bike shops in the eighties, interesting to read about them now!
