Read all the advice and you just might get confused and come off.
Just ride straight and relaxed, with no pedal movement. That covers the increased wet risk etc.

I have never dismounted. That does sound more risky.

As above. One further thing: if it's wet ease off the power and coast over. This may involve a preliminary sprint if it's uphill.

I came across my first one a couple of weeks back I wasn't sure if my bike would drop though it I was sh* tting it but didn't even think to get off but it was fine but I still wet myself everytime I approach one, aslong as you don't go over them sideways I guess you'll be fine same thing with drains at the side of the road, I've noticed some go the same way as the road so if you hit those your tyre will go inside them

Cattle grids are no more dangerous than manhole covers, overbanding on road repairs, those silly block paviers they've done the centre of Leicester in etc etc What you do need to watch for is startling livestock. When a car/lorry/tractor approaches a cattle grid they can hear it coming and know the grid will rattle but a cyclist is almost silent until the rattle and this can spook them. Especially if they are young beasts (fatstock) as they can be really skittish. One particular danger is when they are the other side of a hedge with a cattle grid in it as they can't see even if they were looking.
