Its not recommended it could cause more damage or if a broken piece jams the wheel could lock up, having said that I had one with three of the four pawls broken, I was lucky to get home but no more damage occured, I think I was very lucky, I would investigate it before riding.
On a club run once a clubmate had his lock up, it was like riding fixed 40 mile home.
So it turns out that some water got inside. It needs to be cleaned and re-greased. LBS £10 Cost.
Going to start buying my own tools and work stand. As I feel like being robbed paying that much for such fix.
Another update: So the lbs didn't fix the issue. He just relubed the hub. Apparently, there is water and it will just need to dry by itself and the noise will stop. Feels like burning £10 on fire.
