At £329 new, these seem to get favourable reviews as an entry-level bike. I am considering buying a secondhand one for sale "hardly used" for £175, to see if I like drop-bar riding.

If I don't, do you think I'd be able to re-sell at that price ?

Many thanks

They are on sale at the moment for £199.

I have a Subway 1 and keep an eye on used subway prices. I would say that if you bought it now you could probably flog it fairly easily for £150 in 6 months time.

TDF are £329 Subway £199, 2 different bikes

Thinking of getting a second hand TDF myself while i save for a more expensive roadie later in the year.

I would think £175 resale would be easy enough

Paid about £250 for one from Halfords in Worcester just over 2 years ago and used it that winter as a winter trainer after attaching sks mudguards. It has been having various upgrades during last winter and also this winter as this is its 3rd season.
If you want to try it out to see how you take to drop bar riding for the price I would recommend it. I posted a picture of mine in the photo section under 'show us your winter hack'. Admittedly mine has undergone quite a few modifications each season, but the core basic package represents good value for money. Also if you look around on ebay I think you would be able to get a decent return on it, but I don't think you would want to do that.

I've been running a 2nd-hand (very 2nd-hand) Carrera Virtuoso this winter, which is basically the same thing.

Overall I've been impressed for what is essentially a cheap bike. It's handled everything I've thrown at it whilst being treated like dirt. With the Ridgeback back at Madison for a new frame (hopefully) suddenly it's put into duty as a main bike (and cleaned). In 600+ miles there's been nothing go wrong with it at all.

I've gone for it. Just put the lights and my pedals on it. It has raceblades too. Looking forward to riding it to work tomorrow. There are a couple of little chips in the paint on the crossbar where it has been carelessly parked, but otherwise it is in very good order. There's little or no wear on the tyres.

My wife, who knows little about bikes, turned her nose up at it & said it looked old & ugly compared to the smart FCR3 - perhaps she might buy me a smarter road bike for my birthday then !

Thanks everyone.

Enjoy , i really liked my TDF and still use a virtuoso for commuting .

Been squirrelling cash away for a while now and should have enough for a new bike and some bits and pieces in a couple of weeks. Have been researching the TDF and went for a look in Halfords today, very impressed, seems like very good value for money.

This will be my first road bike so had to be sure I'm making the right choice.

Got a four day weekend in 2 weeks so that seems like as good a time as any to get it.
