Carradice Lowsaddle Longflap on a small framed bike

I've recently adjusted the saddle on one of my bikes and that's set just right. However, the issue is that the Bagman QR is now only about an inch and a bit above the wheel - this has started to become a problem as when the bag is heavier and laden with some groceries and a heavy lock it's beginning to rub on the wheel. From my ride yesterday there's now a small worn hole in the front.

Any ideas on how to rectify this?

It's annoying as I don't want to revert to carrying a backpack with this bike as I prefer to have any loads off my back and shoulders.

Use corrugated plastic as a base . The same stuff sale boards are made of and the same stuff carradice use to to stiffen the pannier bags

You'll need to fit a mudguard or similar, someone I know ditched their QR bracket and instead fitted a pannier rack that their bag rests on.

Hmm, I already have a plastic insert to stop the bag sagging, it's more issues of the QR being just too clise to the wheel. I'd prefer not putting a rack/mudguards on the bike to be honest as I might as well use paniers if that was the case.

I have the sport version of that salty which is supposed to be good for small frames but it only has a clearance of about an inch from the tyre so if theres heavy items in the carradice it will inevitably touch the tyre

In that picture I'm guessing the seat is higher than yours but to illustrate a point if you were to remove the bracket from the support completely and cut some of the stem then refit into the bracket it would it help sit higher?

The alternative would be to fit the mudguard as pictured, but perhaps cut it off under the bracket so you keep you clean lines but it will act as a barrier between the bag and wheel?

Hi wiggy,

my support is the QR sport:

http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_id=product&under=other&product_id=102

So it's not held on by a bracket. As the metal arms are fitted into the lower QR bracket they can't be adjusted. The only way to adjust is in the fore-aft of the saddle and the tilt which then makes my saddle incredibly uncomfortable...

The seat is actually similar to the height in your photo but the bagman is looking from the side view about a couple of inches at it's lowest point away from my tyre.

Yeah its not going to work is it, I have the same bracket and thought you can unscrew part of it and then take a hacksaw to it to shorten the bars and refit them.Got home and inspected mine and its not that simple is it.....

Are you strong? Could you bend it upwards a little?

Failing that I'm stumped now sorry:blush:

I've tried a bit of brute force on the support and it has shifted it up a bit but I think it's still too low for overall clearance for a heavier/fuller bag.

I might try and write to Carradice and see what suggestions they have as they're usually a good bunch.
