Housing Associations that have emerged from Council Housing stock consider people from different backgrounds to bring something fresh to their buisness and casting their net further, as they are trying to shed the dead wood and jobsworth mentality of Council workers (NOT ALL!!!! but a fair few) so managers have come from tesco and such to get a more customer focused mentality. Housing can be very interesting work, front line is good if your interested in people and socially minded but it can be very strategic too, with it being public sector and mainly public funded chances are there will be less redundancies, its not for the faint hearted though its pretty fast paced and hard going.

To choose my last career change direction I went into the Library and looked at a book that lists just about every job and what you need to get it. From there I managed to narrow it down and also found a few ideas that I had not thought of.

I worked in a research laboratory, and at the age of 45 i decided enough is enough. i moved from the central belt of scotland and moved up to the foothills of the cairngorms to work in a distillery making whisky...i havn't looked back, it was the best move of my life.
Go for it, you will not regret it.

Anyone round here whose business failed at that age used to get a job with the council as a business adviser.

 Often wondered why my business advisors at the bank are not running their own business, what on earth can they do for me?

Good luck on re-training, I'd look at something that you can do for yourself, surely self employed is the new secure option?
