Hi,
Quick question - I'm in the middle of replacing some front suspension forks with some exotic carbon forks. Got it all planned out and running through the process and I'm just installing the new carbon fork.
Do I need to put carbon paste on the fork where the headset compression ring and headset cap will sit?
Thanks

carbon paste is for gripping seatposts to stop over-clamping usually , my carbon frame/ fork has grease in it .

You shouldn't need to put anything in the headset area - as @cyberknight notes carbon paste is generally used to prevent slippage in places like a seatpost where you don't want to overtighten the bolts. You can put some on but it won't serve any actual purpose - there aren't sufficent loads being applied to be concerned about slippage providing you've got the bolts sufficiently tight.

If you don't already have one, I'd recommend a torque wrench particularly with a carbon steerer tube.
