Yes, but some materials are more tolerant of imperfect manufacturing than carbon. You can weld steel with greasy hands in the rain and the join will still be strong - not true with carbon (or even aluminium).

Precisely my view - in one case, the frame was built in a hurry as a personal favour (I was bumped up the lengthy waiting list) after my racing frame was damaged in a racing accident. So I'm certainly not going to 'name and shame'![]()
