Car fuses - dumb girly question

I need a new fuse (Vauxhall 10) does it need to be Vauxhall specific. The V garage is not very close and I'm confined to base for boiler service then back at work. or will the little MOT place 5 mins walk away have somethng that will do?

Any fuse will do, as long as you know the rating (10 amps, in this case) and what shape it is. Most modern cars use blade fuses. Your local garage should be able to help you.

Thanks I have dead fuse to take with me so will try them.

You would be better off going to Halfords or a local car shop. A local garage will not supply unless they also fit. And these things are really easy to do. No it doesn;t have to be Vauxhall specific but it must match.

Most petrol stations will have a small range of common fuse types.

They come in two sizes though. Most are the smaller ones but some older cars might still be the big ones.

They're cheap. Buy a few different ones and keep them in the car? In fact, are you sure you don't have one? Many fuse boxes have spare fuses clipped next to the 'working' fuses.

That is the question which needs to be answered first IMO. They can occasionally blow due to old age but normally there is a problem.

2 fuses (one spare) for 42p have come home and fit it and now the windscreen washer works a treat.

cant one just remove the lights fuse to make th ewipers go, then when it stops raining put it back so the lights work amd so on
