I knew the misses was going to wake me up early on her way out to work this morning.

I planned to take the dog out the same time she left, get back and plan a route then get out on the bike for a bit of early exercise etc.
Now I am back from walking the dog, I really really cannot find it in me to get up and go cycling. I dunno if I didn't sleep enough and my body is just saying "NO", or if it's because I know I'm off work tomorrow as well and can get out then if I want.

Anyone else feeling like this or am I just being a lazy git?

I find the more I don't feel like it, the better I feel once I've been out for some reason. Maybe it's the endorphin release?

Yes, you're being a lazy git ;) but you're allowed, it's your life!

It can be difficult sometimes to get yourself motivated. I think we've all been through that. Sometimes I let myself take the lazy option, I'm not a slave to the bike after all. And sometimes I ignore myself, get togged up and head out knowing full well that I'll be glad I've made the effort once I'm out.

Could be right ! It is a great feeling when you get back having completed a nice bit trip !

I think I'll try and plan a fairly flat route, most of my usual ones are pretty hilly and climbing flairs up my chest injury at the moment.

+1. I find there is always a lot of inertia in getting going. Having to go and get changed, get the bike out, check the tyres etc is all a load of faff that its easy to put off but once I'm out there on the bike, like MattHB, I wonder why I made so much of it. I usually go out with the intention to just do a short ride and then find myself adding more and more bits on to it until I arrive back several hours later tired and happy.

I'm sat here in my cycle kit, the bikes stood behind me ready to go, the weather looks crap, but when I've finished typing this I'm getting my shoes on and I'm on my way. The club ride is to Upper Stowe and I'm planning to ride down on my own then join a group to ride back with. Its early yet theres plenty of time to get motivated and get out.

Well I'm back from over 30 miles and really enjoyed it. Lovely morning - though it was a bit crisp and the roads were wet and covered in gunk.

Exercising of all sorts works best for me if it is habitualised. Then not going doesn't really enter into the equation. A long time ago I went to the gym about 3 times a week. My gym bag was permanently packed, I came home and picked it up and just went. The only time I found it difficult to go was after a break. If I missed a couple of weeks over Christmas or on holiday. Then one time I just never went back at all. I certainly don't want to make the same mistake with cycling.

So if I was you I would have had my kit looked out, route planned already - or made up off the cuff. Then I'd have came home with the dog and just gone without any thinking about it.

I felt a bit like that this morning. Then halfway up the first big hill I toyed with turning round and heading home. But I knuckled down and ended up having what was probably my most enjoyable ride ever.

Got back about half an hour ago, 74 hard miles, got to the cafe and the only group in was the intermediate group, the family group had gone elsewhere, so it was a lone ride today, the wind made it hard and the wet but drying road made it slippery in places on the way out, it had dried out nicely on the way home. Not the most enjoyable mornings cycling but it was good fun.

Well I DID get out in the end. just a 19.5 mile-er, about as much as I can handle till my current chest injuries are all better. Didn't have a clue where I was half the time either
Made fairly good time too considering the climbs
