Hi all, I've noticed that I can't look behind me. I think it's because of a long term of rugby etc and my neck is slowly stiffening up.
Has anyone else had the problem?

Mick

No, I find it ok. Buy a mirror if you're not sure.

if you wear a plastic helmet, then a helmet mirror.

@MontyVeda I have tried taking my right hand off the bars but I still can't see.

@ianrauk and Markymark I am thinking of a Mirror, just which one, I fancy the Downtube type but it's ease of use and workability over the looks. What do you guys recommend.

I can only turn my head back as far as my shoulder, I can only see a limited amount out of the corner of my eye then. I think some people are just more flexible than others.

@User259 I have racing bars, well close to

The Bike is a Cannondale Aluminium Synapse

@Chris S its defiantly injuries as I can remember the pain, but fair point to what you said I can take that onboard.

May be someone with a 'bent might be along shortly to advise what they use. Personally if I was going for one, I'd be looking at the handlebar type. I haven't seen them that often but when I have, they have been on drop bars like @ianrauk 's picture. They drew my eyes to the cyclist as being something different on the bike, which if reflected in motorists generally, might not be a bad thing. - i'e. getting other road users' attention you are there.

In between here and there
Took me 3-5 months before I could do a decent shoulder check without swerving probably another 2+ months before I could give a really good look and manoeuvre and indicate at the same time for a right turn! In fact I used to just stop and wait for a break in traffic for right turns. I cricked my neck in the first few months as well if I recall correctly. Practice make perfect, get on an isolated bit of road or segregated path somewhere and practice a lot.

I would try all three and see which one you get on best with.
You can then sell the other two.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I tried the downtube mirror type and didn't like it. I kept bashing my knee against it. It was horrible. I then got a handlebar mirror. Much better. Easy to use and you can see behind you really well.
