Not a subject that often comes up but pins and needles in .....your old man ... is not unknown .
However , it shouldn't last that long once you get off and if it lasts longer than say....a weekend, then you should get it checked out as it might mean that there are either vein issues or nerve damage.

Normal, yes, but don't go thinking you have to accept it. Your saddle could be positioned badly for you, or even the wrong shape. Your weight should be taken by your sit bones and numbness can happen when you're taking the weight on the perineum. Are you sitting on the nose of the saddle rather than further back? It MIGHT be as simple as moving the saddle forward a cm or 2.

There's some conjecture as to whether sitting on the perineum can cause lasting damage but, either way, numbness 'down there' is certainly not a pleasant feeling. Or maybe it is, whatever floats your boat!

I disagree. It is not normal. If you are suffering this symptom then your saddle is either adjusted incorrectly or does not suit your physiology.

If sustained pressure is applied to your perineum, then numb genitalia is the result and is suggestive of a saddle which is too narrow.

Your weight should be carried by your sit bones on the broad part of the saddle. I suggest getting yourself to a Specialized dealer who will have the equipment to measure the distance between your sit bones and provide a suitable saddle. As this is likely to be a Specialized saddle, don't feel pressurised into buying it. You will have your measurement and are then equipped to purchase any brand.

I echo what Gerry Attrick said, get down to a specialized dealer and get measured, as it sounds like incorrect saddle fit to me.

I also used to suffer this but did exactly what was said (got down to a specialized dealer) and ended up buying a Specialized Toupé Gel saddle (£79.99), which although expensive has since been worth it's weight in gold. I've just returned from a tour of 8 consecutive days of over 100 miles per day and didn't have any saddle issues.

Now I'm not saying this saddle is the right one for you, as it's a bit like shoes or gloves, everyone is a different shape and different one's suit different people. Trial and error I'm afraid. I'd tried 3 other saddle's before arriving at the Toupé, which is why I was prepared to pay a higher price for something that worked for me!

Good luck.

Ive suffered it on very odd occasions...maybe 2 or 3 times in the last 5 years, and actually, it hasnt happened this year.
My saddle hasnt changed and 99.999 % of the time i dont have any issues.
Excess time in the saddle hasnt been an issue either...its happened when i've spent 1 hour in the saddle...and didnt happen when i did 5 hours.

I guess if it passes, don't worry too much about it.
